Top Tips for de-cluttering your home!

The warmer weather is almost upon us and so to will be the urge to simplify our lives with cleaner spaces. More daylight means more time to get stuck into de-cluttering your home in preparation for the festive season. To help you get ready, New England Waste has compiled a list of our top tips for clearing out the junk and clutter.

Face up to reality

We’ve all got that piece of furniture we picked up on the side of the road. 5 years ago. With the best of intentions to strip it back, paint it and give it a new lease on life. But if you haven’t gotten around to it yet, the chances of it happening are probably pretty slim. Offer it round to friends or family, donate it to the local Smith Family or Salvation Army store and if those are not options for you, dismantle it and chuck it in the skip!

Accept that Rome wasn’t built in a day

It took you years to accumulate all of these treasures so it makes sense that it will take longer than a day to clear out. Start a list of all of the areas of the house that need clearing and then allocate time in your calendar to attack those areas one by one. It may just be 30 minutes if that’s all you can manage and choose your task accordingly – even if it just means clearing out one drawer!

Keep you focus and you’ll be surprised in your sense of achievement.

Sell, sell, sell!

Before you send it to landfill, chuck your unwanted stuff onto Facebook Marketplace and even if you get $10, that’s $10 you didn’t have before! You never know who is looking for a bargain and happy to buy used!

Understand your home’s clutter magnets

If you have a drawer that is constantly stuffed with papers, create a solution to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Make or purchase a holder for bills or better yet, opt to get your bills via email. Keep a recycling box close to your problem drawer and toss brochures and paperwork in there as soon as you are done reading them. If there’s information you want to save for later, take a snap and store it on your phone!

There’s a real art to cleaning and some amazing resources out there from professional cleaning gurus. Here’s just a few you should check out:
